Grantlas vs Instrumentl
Instrumentl is a full grants platform built for teams. Grantlas does one job — who'll fund you and whether you're a fit — for $99 a month, month to month.
Prices and features checked October 22, 2026
Instrumentl has the bigger database and covers the whole grant lifecycle, from prospecting to post-award spending, starting at $349 a month ($299 if you pay a year upfront). Grantlas covers the first half of that job: it ranks funders and open grants against your organization, writes the reason for each, and flags the ones you'd waste time on. If you're one person doing grants, that's usually the half that matters, and it costs $250 a month less.

Which one fits
Pick Instrumentl if
- You need post-award tools: spenddown, budgets vs. actuals, accounting sync.
- More than 3 people need their own logins, included in the plan.
- You want AI drafting from your past proposals inside the same tool.
- You sync grants with your CRM.
- You need SSO or a SOC 2 Type II vendor.
- You want the largest possible list of open RFPs.
Pick Grantlas if
- One person does grants, maybe part time.
- You want a ranked shortlist with reasons and red flags in the first 10 minutes.
- You want peer prospecting without paying $499+ a month.
- You want deadlines, tasks and report dates in one Tracker, with reminders and a calendar feed, on the $99 plan.
- You'd rather draft in Claude or ChatGPT, with your Grantlas research connected.
- You're a consultant with 2 to 5 clients.
- You want an API without paying $999 a month.
- You'd rather pay month to month without a premium.

Side by side
Finding funders
Instrumentl lists more: 450k+ funder profiles and 37k+ active RFPs. Grantlas has 137,257 funders from IRS filings — every private foundation and grantmaking charity on file — plus 2,839 open and upcoming federal, state and local grants. The difference is what happens next. Grantlas ranks foundations and open grants against your profile and puts the best fits at the top, so you start from a ranked list, not a database.
Bottom line: Instrumentl has more rows. Grantlas tells you which rows to read first.
Knowing if you're a fit
Every Grantlas match comes with a Fit and a plain-English reason: subject, geography, grant size, eligibility. Red flags show first — invitation only, gives outside your area, funds no new grantees, grant size mismatch. Instrumentl's AI-matched opportunities are labeled Beta on its pricing page.
Bottom line: If the expensive mistake is spending 40 hours on a funder you were never eligible for, Grantlas is built to stop it.
Peer prospecting
“Who funds organizations like us?” is often the fastest way to a warm list. Grantlas includes it at $99. Instrumentl starts it at Pre-Award ($499/mo yearly, $579 monthly), and it isn't available on Instrumentl's consultant plans.
Bottom line: Same question, about a fifth of the price.
Tracking, reminders and reports
Instrumentl, the most complete tool we compare, covers this too. So does every Grantlas plan: a Tracker from research to award with your own stages, tags and fields, tasks, dated notes, amounts awarded and report due dates on the grants you win. Reminders go out by email 60, 30, 14, 7 and 3 days before every deadline, task and report due date, and every date can sit in Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar. Board reports show your win rate and money awarded by fiscal year and funder, sent as one link. On Pro, give each grant an owner and each task a person, and each person gets reminders only for theirs.
Bottom line: The same day-to-day workflow for $99 a month, not $349.
Writing proposals
Instrumentl builds AI drafting in, from Pre-Award at $499 a month. We think drafting belongs in the assistant you already write in. Connect Grantlas to Claude or ChatGPT, included in every plan, and ask for the letter there: it pulls in your profile, the funder's giving by year and how to apply, and the grant's eligibility rules, then moves the funder along your Tracker when you send it.
Bottom line: Draft in the assistant you already use, with your research already in it.
Managing awards
Full Lifecycle adds spenddown, budgets vs. actuals and accounting integrations. Grantlas tracks report due dates on the grants you win, but not spending.
Bottom line: If you manage restricted awards with a finance team, Instrumentl does things Grantlas doesn't.
Getting started
Instrumentl's own FAQ says most teams are up and running within 30 days. Grantlas reads your website or EIN, drafts your profile, and shows matches in about 10 minutes. No setup call.
Bottom line: You'll know if Grantlas works for you before lunch.
Consultants
Grantlas Pro is $199 a month with 3 client organizations included, and $49 a month for each extra, up to 5. Each client has its own profile and matches, and all deadlines sit in one Tracker. Client status reports, peer prospecting and the API are included.
Bottom line: Up to 5 clients, one bill.
